Where do I begin? There is no Out of My Own Way without Track 1. Let's go back to 2018, I began working on a record shortly after releasing my first album, If Money Grew on Trees, that I titled "Track 1," as a start to the next phase in my career. I traveled back home from Columbus to Woodmere Village and my mom purchased a Tree necklace as a gift for releasing the album! During my time I drove around the streets I spent my childhood on reflecting on the last year, creation of IMGOT, and everything I wanted moving forward.
I named the record, Track 1, because at the time it was just an idea for something that could potentially come down the line. In hindsight I could have put this record out as a bonus joint for IMGOT, or just put it out as a single, but I never did. I kept the record to myself and it never made its way into being released. Towards the end of 2019, I thought maybe Track 1 would make its way into being apart of Open Treehouse, long story short it didn't, and we were back to square one with this record that meant a lot to me being shelved.
If the pandemic taught me anything is that my voice is important, and my music means a lot to those who listen, and the more I hold on to music the more I keep my voice and moments to inspire people away from those who may need it. I know many others are holding on to music or an idea that could change their life and I hope Track 1 is a reminder to many to let it go and bring it to the world!
